Care and Maintenance

Regular care and maintenance of the Ecostar Autogreasing System is vitally important to your investment in both the grease system and your equipment; it’s also simple and easy.

During your regular circle check:

  • observe the level of the grease in the reservoir.

  • if it’s at the minimum level, take the time to fill it with EP00 or EP0 grease.

  • keep a general eye open for any pools of grease, dry points or hanging lines that may indicate service is required.

TIP:

HAND WASH ONLY.

DO NOT wash the Ecostar grease pump with a pressure washer or water will be forced into the reservoir.  Refer to the Troubleshooting section if this occurs.

TIP:

If you have had your vehicle in for service, perform a circle check and test the system before you leave the shop.  Sometimes lines are disconnected, burned or damaged during servicing.

Filling the Reservoir

The reservoir is refilled using a hand-pump.

Click here for information on the hand-pump sold by SETI that includes aquick-connect and boot.  The boot is critical because it prevents the shaft of the hand pump from scraping the bottom

of the plastic grease pail.  This plastic, or other contaminants in grease, will block the pump filter and make it difficult to push grease into the system.  DO NOT FORCE A HAND PUMP THAT IS RESISTANT.

Instructions

  1. With the SETI hand-pump on a pail of EP00 or 0 grease, attach the female quick connect to the male on the hand pump lid and pump until the hose is full of grease.  This action prevents the introduction of air into the autogreasing system.

  2. The grease container (reservoir) must only be filled via the fill coupling mounted on the side of the grease pump.  Remove the blue dust cap and clean the coupling.  Attach the quick connect on the handpump to the coupling on the Ecostar pump.

  3. Fill the reservoir until the top of the support piston reaches the top of the blue triangular sticker.

    • If there is resistance, clean the filter before filling as shown in the video “HOW TO REFILL AN ECOSTAR PUMP”.

    • If the reservoir is overfilled, grease will exit the overflow hole at the front of the square base.

  4. Clean the coupling and replace the blue dust cap.

It’s a good practice to allow the grease in the pump reservoir to reach the minimum level to keep the grease fresh.  Old grease will separate and be a less effective lubricant.

However, if the amount of grease in the reservoir goes below the minimum noted, there may be air in the system. This will affect how the system distributes grease.

When the vehicle is in for other maintenance checks, ask the mechanic or other maintenance personnel to include the following:

Reservoir; check for:

  • Damage: if cracked, replace with a new unit.

  • Amount of lubricant; if low, fill with the correct grease to MAX.

  • Leakage from the pump, other than the overflow hole.

  • If the blue cap of the fill coupling has been dislodged, thoroughly clean the coupling before replacing the blue cap.

Electrical Connections; check:

  • Pressure switch, solenoid valve and timer for damage/oxidation.

  • Timer by means of TEST procedure; ensure the grease is reaching the lubrication points.

General checks:

  • Air line and air tank connections leaking or damaged?

  • Mainline leaking or damaged?

  • Verify, using a 2000 psi pressure gauge, that the pressure of the grease system is constant at 1000 psi.

  • Also test the pump using the manual override of the solenoid valve.

  • Inspect all lubrication points. If a lubrication point is dry (or too greasy) refer to the Troubleshooting Guide, or call for service.
